Anna Clifford – Nielson Winery, Santa Barbara USA

Anna has taken charge as Winemaker, bringing her experience of making wine around the world (incl. vintage in Central Otago) to this year’s harvest and assembly of their excellent Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. It was a film that kickstarted Anna’s path to wine. The film was French Kiss (no, not Sideways) and highlighted wine’s ability to capture a moment in time and its tendency to grow in beautiful places. After studying at UC Davis, Anna spent a decade making mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay for distinguished wineries, before a vintage in Central Otago, NZ launched a passion for Pinot Noir.

With a passion for crafting exceptional Chardonnays, Xanthe Hatcher serves as the talented winemaker, while under the watchful guidance of internationally acclaimed winemaker John Belsham. “I try to let the vineyard express itself, speak for itself, and then nurture that into the bottle rather than creating a style, because the style is already there.”  While tradition and provenance influence Xanthe’s winemaking style, she’s also unafraid to make bold creative decisions in her pursuit of perfection.
