Mendoza, Argentina
When, in the mid-1880s, Pascual Toso set off for Argentina from his hometown, Canale d'Alba in Piedmont, Italy, he could not have imagined that he would become the founder of one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in Argentina. Upon his arrival in Argentina, he settled in Mendoza. Having been closely involved in the development of wines with his family in Piedmont, he immediately recognised the promising future of the region for winemaking and decided to apply his experience. Thus, in 1890, Pascual Toso established his first winery in San José, Guaymallén. At the beginning of the 20th century, he decided to expand the business and acquired vineyards in Maipú. On his estate in Barrancas, he built another winery, “Las Barrancas” (small canyon), dedicated to the production and cultivation of premium grapes. Today, with an oenology and agronomy team that combines experience with youth, guided by Paul Hobbs and at the forefront of global trends, the winery offers a world-class Malbec that is constantly evolving and being updated.
A family-owned company for 135 years
Pascual Toso's wines are crafted by world-renowned winemaker Paul Hobbs, who has guided the winery since 2001 following his time at Opus One. Working alongside him, Head Winemaker Rodrigo Romero has spent more than 17 years refining the estate's wines, with his first vintage earning some of the highest scores in the winery's history.
